As a precursor to reading this article, I suggest a visit to www.planittesting.co.nz to download this year’s Planit Testing Index Executive Summary – Ed.

7 December 2012 saw the Planit Testing Index roadshow roll into Auckland, the last stop on a 7-date tour around New Zealand and Australia. Sounds more like a rock band itinerary I know however every year Planit surveys the testing landscape in this part of the world and presents its findings in each of the major centres – which is great for number nuts like me who seem to derive an inordinate amount of satisfaction when my own predictions and expectations turn out to be in sync with Planit’s findings.

Web Services Testing

Latest Whitepapers | January 8, 2013

By Huw James
Test Consultant, Planit Software Testing

ABSTRACT: This paper looks to provide those who are new to web services testing with guidance on the best practices and approach to testing. It also highlights some of the key challenges that may be encountered.

Whitepaper: Web Services Testing

Starting Point

Web services have become increasingly popular and a larger number of companies have moved to solutions based on Service Oriented Architecture and Web Services. This has been apparent from my own experience, where I have worked on the integration testing of web service with large organisations with well-established processes, through to small vendors who have adopted web services technology for the first time and have little to no established web service testing processes.

Due to this increased popularity, companies are increasing the level of test effort in this area. It is increasingly likely that many testers will find that they will work in this area during their career. In this paper, I look to provide guidance to those new to web service testing by introducing the concepts of web service technology and architecture; understanding the challenges that are likely to be encountered by testers; and suggesting the best approach for testing.

Agile Mindset

Latest Whitepapers | December 20, 2012

By Leanne Howard
Account Director

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this whitepaper is to highlight some of the major characteristic of a successful Agile team, shed light on some of the reasons why some teams find it difficult and suggest guidance for those who are struggling to adapt to the new mindset.

The Agile mindset is very difficult to define and I am sure that everyone has their own opinion on what is it. I would like to share what it means to me and what I have observed working with a number of teams both internal and with clients.

When forming an Agile team there are traits which I look for above those of purely technical ability (which I can train):

  • Committed team player
  • Excellent communicator (by that I mean appropriate to the occasion)
  • Willingness to take on challenges and look outside the box
  • Passion for continuous learning
